YOUR offer MIGHT attract ATTENTION, BUT IT’S YOUR words THAT WILL hold IT.

I’ve loved words for as long as I can remember. When I was 7, my Year 1 teacher added the word ‘physiotherapist’ at the end of our weekly spelling list. She said our challenge was to learn how to spell it and use it correctly in a sentence by the end of the week. Dictionary in hand (yes, I’m from that generation!), I set to work. I have no idea what my sentence was, but I remember the swelling pride I felt when I got my results back from our test at the end of the week and saw a big, red tick next to ‘physiotherapist’!

For me, it was less about the grade on that test, and more about the power I felt having learned a new word. Looking back, this was my first introduction to the power of words, and how control over words means control over a message.

As a business owner, you need more than just words to describe your offering. You need words which compel your customers to engage with you, driving interest, growth and sales.

Fittingly, that same teacher was the first of a handful who inspired my own journey into the classroom. I was in awe of her. She was a real life ‘Miss Honey’; tall, beautiful and softly spoken. And every few afternoons, she would invite us to sit at the front of the room while she read us fantasy stories. Her love of outlandish, faraway places inspired my own imagination and from this, my love for storytelling was born.

As I grew, I quickly realised that, despite my love for stories, fiction writing was never really my strong point. Instead, my natural strength in analysing the ways writers use words to create an experience for their reader emerged.

I discovered that, while words on a page can tell a story, words used strategically can control how we respond to a story.

It was this natural strength that ultimately led me back into the classroom (after a roundabout journey involving countless casual jobs and a long-term stint in marketing with a multinational electronics company).

As an English teacher, it is literally my job to educate young people about the power of words. Aside from your bread and butter literacy, the English Curriculum I teach fosters an appreciation for literature. From this, I teach my students how to understand the way language is used to control our responses to what authors write.

HOW CAN THIS translate TO YOUR business?

Simple.

You aren’t just here for a copywriter to fill your pages. You’re here because you need someone who knows how to use words to craft lovely sentences. Someone who is an expert in using words strategically to craft a message as unique as your brand. You deserve someone who can harness their power to showcase your offerings in their best light, build your community organically, and drive profits.

I’ll craft copy which leaves your community compelled to purchase from you.
